I heard (from a reliable source at the school) that UNT ranks number one nationwide as a transfer university. Plus UNT does not limit you to getting one scholarship only. But if you can't get a scholarship, UNT is a bit expensive.

UTA offers scholorship for both semesters, but still it depends on budget. UNT does not.   It is always better to ask international office.

Sahilbryan - I don't know from where you got ur info?, But, I think you should start looking into things by urself.

Rookie1 - I graduated from UTA, I transfered from NLC with scholarship and also got my Phi Thita Kaapa scholarship of $ 1000 per year.

Here are the things -

Both UTA and UNT overall ranking are almost same ( not in 100 or even 200, some close to C level). Now Each university has its own department ranking, For UTA their enegerring dept falls somewhere in 70 (according to 2006 data). From my personal experince, UTA is much much better when it comes to scholarship. I think ( now this is I think) UTA gets more fund than any other university in close proxmity of DFW. For UTA, if u have a better GPA (above 3.25) , scholarship is almost ceratian, provided that u applied early enough. Plus u do get Phi thita kaapa scholarship, worth 1000 dollar year, upto 4 semester. Also, during our time, there was a flat rate - above 14 credit hours u pay the same amount. Now, it's 12 credits. So If u are a dedicated one, U can take as much as upto 21 credit hours and just pay 12 credits our fees. Also, they have something called - Early graduation, ( i am not sure still they have that or not. But I got $ 500 check for doing early grdaution, basically if u take 15 or more cedit hours in two semsters and maintain a good GPA (3.5) u get this money. recently I found out that their scholarship amount has gone real up compared to our time ( almost double). Now, U do get Asscoaite dergree scholarship for transfer students, if u have ass, degree and GPA should be 3 and above.

Now, I have 3 frds who are @ UNT, None of them got any scholarship in their first semstere. neither they have scholarship at this point. Buty they are paying in- state tution becoz they work their in computer lab. In UNT, if u work in the college, ur tution is wavied to pay for instate. I have not seen any Nepelase with scholarship with my contacts in UNT. Now, I might be bias here becoz i Didn't atteneted. But I know many who pays in-state tution. WHile UTA is just a target for most of Nepalase who goes to NLC. Other things scholarship years start from Fall. So u have less fund left in SPring. And if u fell to maintain ur GPA in spring, then ur scholarship is gone. while if u went in Fall and say u didn't maintain a GPA in fall, U can pull that in spring and they count total of Fall and spring, and next year starts.

Hope this helps...thanks

I graduated from UTA too. Like Stupidia said when it comes to scholarship processing times and scholarship period there is no comparison between UTA and UNT. I tried to apply at  UNT, I had to call them hundreds of times to inquire about UNT. Therefore, I am not personally so crazy about UNT. Here are the general guidelines if you are applying at UTA.

1. Apply as soon as possible because it is first come first serve (does not matter if you have 4.0, if the school runs out of funding you are SOL).

2. Try Fall semester because you are 100% certain to get scholarship. Since it's the start of academic year in America and the school gets abundant funding from the state. Also, you can afford to screw up your last community college semester (just get C in all classes since these classes will be shown as only 'tranferred' from NLC or whatever).

3. Try to finish only about 30 hours from community colleges. This way you can take atleast 12 hours from university and another 6 hours from C--concurrent enrollment. college (does not matter if you only get C's in these classes--shows as transferred in UTA transcript).

4. Try to get over 3.5 and PTK scholarship while at C. college (even cutoff for scholarship is 3.25 only). You can enjoy flat rate over 12 hours. Also the scholarship amouts have been doubled.

5. If advisors see you graduating on time--you qualify for ontime graduation tuition waiver for $500 taken out of your class semester's tuition.

6. If you have any questions about scholarship call Scholarship office at Davis Hall, do  not call INt'l office since they would not know anything about scholarship.

7. Again apply early--I applied around Jan 17 for Fall semsester I already had letter from UTA on Feb 2 that i had been admitted and I got scholarship too (nearly 6 months b4 the semester started). SO do  not delay.

GOOD LUCK

I transferred to UNT from North Lake College. I transferred with not one but two renewable scholarships, and over the two years period, I received eight other one-time scholarships. One of those scholarships was the one that I had not even applied for. They gave me the option if I would want to use it in my senior year at UNT or as a graduate student at UNT. I wonder how many of the Nepalese students at UTA have received ten scholarships in two years.

I mentioned that UNT ranks number one nationwide as a transfer university because that is the information I received in a scholarship reception. I can't guarantee how true or untrue this information is, but this is what I was told in a university's program, which I would assume as fairly reliable.

I don't know how things work at UTA because I never attended UTA, but my friends who attended UTA said that if you have one scholarship at UTA, they will not give you another scholarship. The common scholarships that I have heard of at UTA are the Phi Theta Kappa or some other scholarship you get just because you have an associate degree.

Stupida, I did not talk about the academic ranking at all, and I have no idea why you are bringing that up. I do have an understanding of where UNT and UTA rank on that criteria. My point was - more students (not just Nepalese, but the Hispanics, the African Americans, and the Caucasians) transfer to UNT than they transfer to any other institution. You also mentioned that you have not seen any Nepalese at UNT with scholarship. Well, I have. But I can't mention their names because of privacy issues. These scholarship recipients range from undergraduate to doctoral Nepalese students, and they were in the same scholarship reception that I was in.

Rookie 1, I am not saying that UTA is bad or anything. You can go there like most of the other Nepalese. I just shared my thoughts with you. Don't think that UNT does not award scholarship; it does.
