i have experienced this.when i first came to US i was having lot of problems coz of finances and also with my school.although i know many people, no one came to help..i had to fight for myself.which in a way was good coz now i know who my real friends are. the attitude of nepali after coming to US, especially if they are well settled, is like that of our present king.they don't care if anyone is asking for help or if anyone is in trouble.they just want to enjoy their american life.

for all the people who have just arrived to US it is better to understand that u are on ur own and there is no one to help u.it is much easier that way.atleast u won't have any false sense of security.

Yep, that's the way to go. You don't expect somebody to help you. You do it on your own. If somebody helps you, he's a good man. If he does not help you, that does not make him a bad man.

It is a huge struggle for any immigrant in the US to make a life. Kehi na kehi muskil ta aai raheko nai huncha. And more or less, almost each and everyone is going through this, no matter what the socio-economic condition that person is in. So, aafai ta mahadev, kalley dela bar, bhanya jastai, when one's own plate is full, it is difficult to take burdens from other's plate. Therefore, when one does get help, one has to be very very grateful to that help giver because what s/he has given is not only generous, but also somewhat uncommon. Sad, but true.

I've found amazingly kind people from Nepal in different parts of the USA. And I've tried to be in their role as much as I can now, by assisting others who come along the way. If anyone is interested in setting up a small GRE/GMAT fee and college application fee fund for needy but bright students from Nepal, let me know.

I have realized that there is no generalization possible by saying "nepalese are like this" or "jews are like this". We must help each other out despite our differences.I laud the "Patel Motel" people for their success story in the land of the free. The Gujarati people have really taken care of each other to be a thriving community.

It's sad to see people from other countries are united and are in good contact with each other while Nepalis don't want to see or even talk to new nepali here. That's strange. Probably they are scared that we'll ask for help. IT really SUCKS. I just wanna meet new nepalis n' be good n' nice to them.

If anyone is coming to my state you are most welcome to stay at my house until you settle down. I love to meet nepali people but I have never met anyone so far in my almost four years of american life.

If I've understood the original question, the new comers are not necessarily looking for help (financial or the place to settle). For me, I'd just wanted to know that there's a guy from home whom I can talk with coz' suddenly the topics for chat has changed after coming here. But you guys also figured it out the wrong way and offering for shelter (food, money, n' blah blah blah; lol). But basically I'd just wanted to talk; that's it. But it's really sad to know that they're not happy to know about another nepali's presence here while the guys from other countries are sharing the interest together.

Gwajyo ji, I agree with your view that not every new-comer Nepali to US is looking for shelter, food and money. I appreciate those who have offered a help. I believe most of us who come to US leave our family and friends behind in Nepal. So, we feel loneliness and isolated. Also, new-comers find many things in US new to them and they need to learn them all as if they are little kids who are learning to live a life. They seek someone (preferably a Nepali) to talk, share experience and learn to live a life US. Honestly; I am one of them. I have been living in US (Florida) since last 2 years and still feel new. I am interested to talk to someone, share experiences and learn more. Anyone interested to talk; please email me. Last but not least, I would like to thank Sajha for providing this valuable platform. SHUBHA VIJAYA DASHAMI TO ALL NEPALIS !!

Thanx madhuji for sharing the interest. I mean exactly the same. Many nepalese still have petty mind no matter where they're.
