there is strayer, ITE tech and other tiny little ones in Clarendon, but they're not state owned.

I think Redstone has named everything I know about. I think Marymount might be private. I would probably stick to GMU if I were U.

Hey Redstone, Don't give wrong pieces of information. Pisces asked that "post name of some state-owned Universities".............. Here is no University that state-owned, but if you go little away from Arlington, you can have Community college that owned by state of VA, called NOVA (there are two NOVA close to Arlington, one is Alexandria behind the skyline, and another is in Annadale: between weakfield chapel and little River turnpike. If you are looking for 4 yrs college, you need to go to Private one such as Marrymount, GMU, besides there are many nontier colleges, I don't think you are looking a college like strayer......... otherwise, you could find in DC, named UDC (a state-owned college) which one has excess of train (metro), if you don't drive. Keeping in touch, we will give you more details..

To my knowledge GMU is public school. Its not Private. Well u can go to GMU. If u are Graduate student than u can check Virginia Tech too they have umbrella schools here in name of Va. Tech NCR.(national capitol region). U can go to UDC or NOVA cimmunity college like gallant have said.
good luck

you are right,
Mason is a public school.Other reputed public Universities in VA are UVA(among the best public schools in USA) , VT ( as swaati mentioned, very very good school of engineering and vet), College of william and mary(which many people mistake it as private school), Mary Washington University, and to certain extent James Madison. All of these are public school.

As for mason, it is the biggest school in the state of virginia, considering the number of the students. With easy access to washington there are more commuters than the one who live on campus. As for you pieces, you might want to go mason because it is closest to the place where you live or will live.
