Parental control

dear sajhites,
I am pretty sure some of you people must have come across this problem. I will make a heart felt honest attempt to make you feel in my shoes. Right now I am in US and I have as sister who is in 12 years old. She has unrestricted access to internet.
Before she used to chat in facebook using other cousin sisters and brothers facebook account. She used to mostly talk with relative, family and family friends. Since people in the house didn't agree to make her own facebook account, she somehow managed to convince one of the far distant cousin to make her own facebook account. At first this looked like harmless and innocent act out of curiosity and it started from there. We clearly failed to see the signs at first, but then started seeing unwanted people pop up on her facebook account, wall and so on. So we decided to block facebook in both mozilla and firefox. And we thought that was end of out problem.. But then after few days we found her using facebook using google chrome. It was actually due to holiday season, that she had enough time and bit of negligence on family's part that allowed  her to get this technically sophisticated at this age. Other cousins in the house allowed her to use facebook saying that they would close it down after the dashain and tihar holidays...but i am feeling things are going out of control. Just a few days back I found out she had also managed to create a skype id taking help from someone else by convincing them that she had to talk with cousins overseas and it was urgent. By the time i was aware of this fact and asked my distant relative about this matter, she had already managed to change her skype password. My suspicion started growing. Then one of my cousin said she had blocked some unknown people on her facebook but she is somehow communicating with them. I can't do much coz I am not physically present there. And since it is a joint family there are lots of computers in the house. It is almost impossible to restrict her net use.
Finally I decided to take help of team viewer with help of cousin to monitor her browsing activities and my fears are slowly turning into reality. With help of team viewer I have found out that she has created a new hotmail add, and linked her facebook to new hotmail add...to which no has access or password and just her. I also found out she has several people on her skype account. Why in the world does she need a skype account??? I myself have 5 people in my skype account and use it with only close people for video communication. Most shocking part was that she was communicating with blocked people on her facebook using mutual frens and other girls on her facebook who are frens with them.
I am really baffled by her level of sophistication. I am also told there are lots of missed calls coming in our home in the land line. Though she doesn't have her own cell phone, i am doubting she does manages to get her hands on cellphone of other less tech savvy people in home like aunts and all, who have no clue. I did tell my other cousin to keep a close watch on her cellphone habits but they tell me she knows how to delete logs and clear history. Only once it was found..a delivery report to a unknown person..which she was unable to delete..due to late delivery. Upon investigation it was found it was a female fren. But later it was found it was same female mutual fren she is communicating to with blocked and unwanted people on facebook and internet. And some of those people do live around in close vicinty!!!

I was able to use teamviewer session only once and able to gather this info. But now i fear she does have some idea even about that. I also need to get more sohisticated than that.

I know I might sound bit of hyper and going out of line. But I can't help myself.

I need tech help. How can i monitor her browsing activities. I just want herto  be safe. Should i use keylogger...which i did try to install but didn't work out..what software or what measure should i take

i just want to monitor what she does, whom she talks to and what she talks about without giving her hint....So please help me. if there is good product in market i am willing to buy. If you guys have any personal experience please share with me,,

system is windows 7 and sophos antivirus

If you guys have solutions and suggestions please let me know,,I need help..please feel free to mail me..

If you are just going to write crap  I am going to delete it..so plz dun waste time..

Try to see if you have access to your Modem/Router they usually have Parental control Functions itself kids won't get to know that router is causing that issue . Installed Parental Controls Programs might cause negative issues over the kids cause it's the age where they get curious about many things and they like to push their parents for lot of freedom and explore the world out there but they are not aware about worst things that could happen.

You can easily block couples of softwares / websites through Router itself if you have access to it  usually new built-in routers/wireless have such Function and some old ones too . Never used any parental controls things will try to look over it might come over some better solutions.

I am posting this so that this thread doesnot die.

If you had XP, there was a free ware called "keyboard tracer" that will trace each and every keystrokes . But I dont think keyboard tracer is compatible with win 7.

One thing you can try is , get "identity  theft protection" software. I guess it is free, but not sure. Our university used to supply it for free though. Run it , and you will see all the passwords , id and any number that matcher credit card/ssn number iin the system. Hope it will give you some info about her account. ( you can try megaupload or rapidshare for free download, file is not big)

Last thing you can try is , Just search on google and spend about an hour. You will find "cracking mozilla". It is not actually cracking, however, you will find a page that gives you step by step guide to modify mozilla( javasxript file) and you can make mozilla to save all the users account info ( /password) without asking the user.  After you modify let her use the mozilla, and her info will be saved . And I bet you know how to see saved id/password on mozilla. Or you can use identity theft protection again.

bravo to the big brother who is soo protective of his lill sister ..12 is indeed very young age to be exposed to evil sick ppl lurking to prey on young girls. But no matter how much you try to control you sister, if she has a will to get out of way to use technology to connect with other ppl. You need to nip the issue in the bud by getting to know your sister and understanding her motivation to do all this. Is she craving for attention/ acceptance from othes which she is not gettng from ppl she expects? I understand your concern being the elder siblings i have tried so many tactics to spy on my younger sibling but insted inflicted more stress and ruined my relationship with them. Hence empower tham to make better decisions for themselves. Teach her how to identify good influence from bad ones....make her watch Oprah/ Tyra and other educational shows where the victims of internet crime ahve spoken out to save other ppl from going through the same fate. Definately continue the survaillence but also help her grow up safely ....

thumbs up for pixie!

Sometimes, consulting psychologist can be usefull too. you can spend your money to pay psychologist instead of spending in spying software.
