I'm doing a project on Nepali websites. Cybersansar comes to mind first. What others are there that can be considered high tech?

Guccha Chor, Have you built a web application from scratch and know five different technology? If so you wouldn't be making that comment. Sorry if I came off rude but working in a large project such as the developer of sodne.com did all by himself (assuming) is not easy. Errors are bound to happen. Having multiple degree does not mean supreme knowledge, industry experience is different then stacking degrees. Has anyone made an effort to notify the developer? I believe none did. Instead we made comment such as this one: " That was the first impression... I didn't even clicking after that..." When will we learn how to appreciate someone's work instead of downplaying? It's good that we found a fault, great QA job! But put it to good use. God bless us! Sincerely, Incandescent PS: Just notified the site admin.

some people are already starting to advertise their website here......funny
well going back to the original question..... frankly guys, i didn't find sodhne.com any close to be high tech website of nepal.....just because the developer might be from MIT and started everything from scratch, doesn't mean that his website would be the most high tech or the best one...it just like craiglist.com
i read a comment about using CMS and not being high tech....Seriously!!! let me remind you of an old saying "don't reinvent the wheel." why would not build upon something that been already done for you. you can add to it and make it even superior...this guy from sodhne.com is basically trying to reinvent the wheel....but overall a nice work.
If i were to classify the most high tech website of nepal, I would consider nepalupclose.com. It has crawlers that crawls up over hundred nepali news website and blogs; categorizes and ranks them and displays them in a very neat way....they have integrated twitter api and automatically tweet latest news topics as well all in their facebook fan page. by the way, the online marriage game that they have is the first of the kind in the world and they seem to make it all by themselves......now tell me how sodhne.com is better than nepalupclose.com

Let me put my version of discussion here. What is the keyword to define high-tech? If Using APIs and consolidate things from other websites is high-tech then there are bunch of high-tech Nepali websites. BUT If writer is targeting to those sites which contains only high-tech material (technical material like in expert-exchange) rather than what technology is used to build website then there are few of them or I can hardly find 5. No offense to anyone. It is just my thought. Regards, UMESH

I would consider it's Algorithm to crawl, search and index sites and intelligence to filter keywords is high-tech.

No body mentioned Sajha ;) There was one I would say HiTech however lots of things are changed there. Now it looks like Classified site- www.nepalisociety.com. It used to have crawler that retrieves news from few nepali news source and some international sources too. It also used to crawl stock news and analyze the stock report ( display graphs, list of stocks that has increased for last 2/3 days ) sends text to the provided number if certain percentage of ups/downs in any stock market was choosen etc. But the guy ( admin) removed the crawler ( no more news ) and locked the stock anlyzer (password protected) for his personal use. He had blogs, classifieds, profile page for users etc which are still there. The coolest part of the page was stock analyzer which is unfortunately not available for users now.

Hey thanks all of you for sharing high tech sites. By high tech I meant websites that implement cool technology. Nice set of sites. I liked sodne.com, nepalupclose.com and nepalisociety.com. In terms of technology, I think sajha is also pretty up there. Keep adding more.

I did not find one impressive thing about Sodne.com. like seriously, the design is horrible! what is nice about it? I also don't get it how does it matter how much work he put in. What I code in 10 hours, someone else can do that in an hour. And I completely agree with nepalkochoro, reinventing the wheel is just stupid. I would have been impressed if he developed something that current cms couldn't do. This is good though to learn but to even consider it a good site? oh well!

In the subject of CMS tools, I don't find those particularly high tech because any ten year old who can follow direction can make those.

I got two emails regarding this thread so I thought I'd respond. First of all in no way am I claiming that sodne.com is high tech :) I'm not a software guy - I'm a one man shop and code as a hobby in the evenings. My other sites related to Nepal are harilo.com (beta), lukeko.com, and palopalo.org (alpha) - I use Rails + postgresql if anyone wanted to know.
Regarding Lalitpur on the site - it's not an error - the site is "hyperlocal" and based on GPS coordinates - so you can search for stuff around you (versus by city). I use google to geocode (i.e. convert addresses into latitude and longitude) and turns out google gives a higher preference to India than Nepal when you geocode "Lalitpur". Try this: http://maps.google.com -> Lalitpur. It's unfair but you can enter "Lalitpur, Nepal" when posting on sodne.com to get the correct coordinates.
As far as not reinventing the wheel and using a CMS, I think it's kind of like buying a tract home versus getting a home custom built. Those who can (have money, time, or skills) will code their site and those who can't... can't. I wanted something hyperlocal, especially for Kathmandu which doesn't have street addresses you can look up (which is also the premise behind milnu.com and lukeko.com). That way you can see that someone at is selling their couch which for Kathmandu is a lot more useful than seeing that someone in Ward 5, Patan is selling their couch. Or you can go to lukeko.com and download recommended restaurants in Kathmandu to a Nokia phone (or iPhone, Android device) - you can then ask very interesting questions with a GPS enabled phone like "what are the top rated japanese restaurants within a half mile of my location".
Stay hungry, stay foolish...

nepalimate.com is just a CMS with almost no custom work done. I would appreciate if the admin had added more self made features to it. everything is prebuilt and can be found online to purchase for around $250 and the template is bought too....
