Namaste!

I am writing to seek any possible Nepalese networks in Toronto or Quebec Canada. The reason I am doing so is because I am immigrating to Canada soon and want to seek advices from Nepalese folks about settlement matters such as initial housing, visiting Nepalese communties, public service communities, employment, transportation etc.

It would be very apprecaited to receiving some thoughtful suggestions from supportive people.

Best,

Subrath Shrestha

Heard from many people residing in Canada that there is a trend of Nepalese immigrants moving from these cities to Calgary, as Himalaya also mentioned above. Toronto is okay in terms of job opportunities and Nepali communiy, although not as good as Calgary is, but life is difficult in Montreal since you have to communicate in French most of the time, road signals, food items, everything is printed in French. So think againif you have planned to land on one of these cities.

I heard that Calgary has very good two nepalese associations. They compete each other to welcome you. Of course you have to a member of one of them once you reap benefits. Don't worry.. they even come to the airport to pick you up. and provide temporary accomodations among the members of the association until you find the suitable place to settle or find a some kind of job. Becasue it;s tough to pay high rent for apartment for newly arriving nepalese in Calgary, because you will be converting $amount into NRs. Monthly rent might be $800 to $1000 if you have family.. which already is NRs 65,000 a month.

Contact these, they even give you utensils to start your life. The members collect used utensils in their inventory to be supplied to the new-comers. So youdon't have to take any utensils from Nepal. But make sure you get confirmed response from the association people that they are picking you from the airport.

http://calgarynepalese.ca/  ------ this association has mostly highly educated Nepalese. They are the creams.
http://www.nepalisociety.ca/ ------ think twice before joining this.. but they might be better in extending you all sorts of helps beyond your expectation. Coz they are down to earth people.

So I heard.

Thank you for your supportive suggestion. Calgary sounds good to explore. I am following up with the websites. How is the public transportation there?

Since my port of entry is going to be Toronto I am thinking of staying there for a couple weeks. If things don't work out I am williing to relocate to Calgary. I request if anyone knows an association or an inidividual (website/email) in Toronto who can be of good guidance to a new comer as myself it is greatly apprecaited.

Cheers,

Subrath Shrestha

Again Subrath:

Take advice from other guys who are telling you not to go to Toronto. You have heard that nepalese from Toronto are moving to Calgary.. why would you go to Toronto after knowing such fact. Eventually you will have to move to Calgary anyways.... trust me, moving from one place to other is always a big hassle. Also, if you have wife, do not go to Toronto... there is history that married nepalese women run away with ugly muslims there. Ther are scores of examples of Nepalese guys losing their wives to others, that's a disgrace. These muslims talk smooth  calling nepalese woemn aap aap.. like that.. and that's how they get caught. Also, may be muslims are circumsized, and woemn love circumsized danda. Once they taste it they will always go after katuwas. Therefore, take a wise decision and go to Calgary. You have seen the numbers of Nepalese in Calgary above... 90% of them moved from Toronto to Calgary. What other justification you need? Protect your wife, and your dignity.

Your advices are warmly acknowledged. I am keeping my settlement flexiable. Just the matter of Toronto had been because it's my port of entry and I strongly have to relay on public transportations. As per the marriage issues thank you for the concern however I am single and marriage is not in my list until few years from now. At the same time I enjoy diverse and international marriage.

Thanking all you folks.

Namaste!

All the best Subrath.

Nice to hear that you like women of international countries... include muslim girls in your list too. Do not hesitate... lot of muslim guys have devasted nepali dudes in Ontario by stealing their wives.

Subarth,

My sister moved to Toronto in September and she had jobs lined up.I applied for her jobs, and so did she. We applied for all the jobs that would fit her in Carrierbuilder and monster and also other sites like:

http://www.workopolis.com/work.aspx?action=Transfer&View=Content/Common/WorkLoginView&lang=EN&theme=work

http://www.211toronto.ca/index.jsp

www.monster.ca

www.carrierbuilder.ca

http://www.jobbank.gc.ca

and many more....search on the internet and you will find them. They also have neighbourhood link (named as such) from canadian gov where they help you get trained on how to answer interview questions and make a great resume. You don't have to pay anything. It is a class they give you for free. This is available in canada almost in every city...toronto aswell.

It is just like US, It all depends on how persistant you are to find jobs. Personally what I found is that , Toronto doesnot have  too many nepalis who has explored job opportunities. My 2 weeks experience may be short but meeting  with people over there made me feel that people who have just come from Nepal have difficulties finding jobs. They settle with lower level jobs but if you have patience, persistancy and some money to survive for 3-4 months without working just to be on safe side, then you can get jobs you want as per your qualification. Market is just like in US. You apply for jobs, they call for interviews, if you prove on interview they offer jobs right away.

Rent and living expenses are expensive for sure in comparison to USA. Regarding jobs I think it all matters in what is your qualification and how good is your resume to catch eyes. Public transportaion is Great. I didnot find Nepalis in Toronto that helpful. Life is fast and it is same like USA except that it is a little expensive. Goodluck.

Subrath:

Why the hell you want to go to Toronto. Go to Calgary.. nothing to lose. You will get all sorts of help and assistance from Day 1 in Calgary. The associations of Nepalese are ready to make you start the life.

They will even help you find the jobs.. they have a cohesive community of Nepalese there... and very helpful. To maximize the benfits, you should consider becoming member of both associations. I know lately they are organizing Dahsian and othe rparties on separate days unlike earlier when they used to hold the events on the same day subjecting nepalese to choose one of the two parties. But now, it's happening separately and you could participate o both while harveting the benefits of all the Nepalese acquaintances.

YOu are not married, as you said. If you consider marrying a Nepali girl.. that's the palce the go and find your love of life as well.. Most of those girls of marrying age are wit htheir parents and studying and at the same time working. So if you pick one of them.. you will get all kinds of supports from her family.
\
\Well if you want to screw international girls.. then I don't have much to say except.. use condoms.

Namaste!

I thank you all for participating and expressing interest in my queries for NepaleseNetwork in Toronto. I agree with Haribansa ji's experiences and Bubblegum ji (sorry I could not find your real name) you have been of good help and guidance. At the same time the reason I have come to Toronto is because my professional is not so technical and it makes sense to be working in diverse and multicultural settings as I am a clinical and career counsellor educator and practitioner. Though now I have arrived in Toronto I am keeping myself flexiable to relocate in places where I can be of help in serving communities and or college universities mental health needs.

As per marriage I am still not keeping in my list of prorities and am hopeful that I shall figure it out with time.

Once again folks I thank you warmly for sharing your experiences and suggestion.

Cheers,

Subrath
