Dear Friends,
I was just wondering how much a person can save if he can earn 100K / year after having H1B. I am aware that the H1B employer will take 25% of my earning. So I will have 75K in my hand. What percentage of it I need to pay to the government as tax? And what is the average cost of living in city like San Francisco; so I can calculate what will be final saving I will have at last?

Your information will be very helpful.

H1B employer will take 25%? Only if you are doing the business with the Indians I guess!!! Do it by yourself and you get to keep it all by yourself.

Do you myself? How is that possible? To get H1B, I should go through a employer right? And isn't it like that I need to work for same employer for 3 years? Can I get H1B from a employer and leave that company after that and work for other company which will pay me 100% of my bill rate? What is income tax for 100K in USA?

Mere Guess.... Just plain guess....!!!

If a person can make 100K per year, then I believe, he/she doesn't bother searching helpful hints in SAJHA. What for???????????

Again, a mere guess....!!!!

I just don't understand the point "25%" taken off by employer ??? It can happen only in case of worst recruiters ...

To find out how much you will be paid just use this calculator

If you are a unmarried person (filing single) your federal tax alone will be around $20,000, state tax depends on your state, SSN and Medicare will be around 7500.

Saving depends on your personal expenditures. It doesn't matter how much you earn, if you spend all, no savings at your hand !! Followings are some of the cases:-

i. If you are sharing room and expenses, you may save upto 6000 dollars in San Francisco (providing 1000 per month rent shared by two people)

ii. If you stop yourself going to Indian restaurant everey weekend, you will save additional 2000 dollars

iii. If you don't own a car and no monthly payment and insurance hassle, you will save another 4000 dollars a year.

So, it all depends on your expenditure. How much are you have to and/or willing to spend... This is just an exmple, you can add more and more like this

Mr. lovenepalalways bro is expecting 100K right after getting H1B.
It takes more than 8 years to get 100K per year. And It is almost impossible to get 100K while in H1B.
This is my experience. It may be wrong.

Guys,
100k isn't a big deal if you are doing something in wallstreet. I know a couple of my friends who have got around 100K right after their bachelors. Moreover, it also depends where you work. 100k in new york may be comparable to 75 k in TX if you are to look at the living costs and so forth.

If you are paying 25% to your sponsor, then that means you are being hired by a contractor who contracts you to the real employer. This is a semi-legal (hopefully soon to be illegal) practice which exploits people looking for a sponsor. In fact, you will still probably be responsible for finding your own "real" employer. Anyway, if you are in Nepal, it is probably a lot easier for you to find this kind of job than actually getting the real employer to sponsor you.

Is your "recruiter" telling you that you will easily find a job earning $100,000 per year? He is probably lying because he is going to make a lot of money from you even if you only make $30,000 per year.

But to answer your questions,

If you are making $75,000 but being taxed on $100,000
I would guess that you take home pay would be at least $3,000 per month (after taxes). Rent in San Francisco is the highest in the country so if you have a roommate you can still expect your living expenses (including food and utilities) to be at least $1000 per month. But you won't need a car in San Francisco. That will save you money. So if you live really cheap you could send home one or two thousand dollars a month. But coming to America changes you and it will be much harder to save that money than you think.
