Inability of Election Commission to do the polls on time was inevitable. As Sujatha Koirala said, she would not cast her vote with gun on her head. Prachanda, the comedian of the millennium, advocates to criminalize MRPF, whereas, he is not willing to leave his gun.

Failing to satisfy everyone will lead Nepal in a state of anarchy. I am surprised by International World and the so called social activist. I was aware that social activists are the creator of chaos in the society, but I was not aware, they will even politically fail. These civil society leaders who are sheltered by corrupt politicians and Maoists advocate for peace. It made me laugh. International media and organizations helped fuel the fire of Nepal’s political process, and surprisingly, they are relying on the word of Maoists. Nepal, between a failed state of India and Communist Nation of China, failed to adapt the policy of developed nation and landed into anarchy.

India, who helped and backed up Maoists to fight against Nepal government, have started to face the consequences they supported. Many states are already occupied by the Maoists and in the long run, it will be adversely affected. Any nation, supporting violence fail to foresee that communism is a communicable disease, and as such, India is affected now. A country that was divided into pieces because of the religion, wishes to help Nepal, by backing up Maoists activities.

What a dilemma!

I advise the impotent government of Nepal some under listed things:

If the revolting group can be satisfied by the resignation of an alleged killer and giving constituencies, there shouldn’t be any question about it. The pahade government dishonored Madhesis by appointing the alleged killer as the Home Minster again. Whereas the jurisdiction of Nepal Government is solely concentrated at the Prime Minister’s office, we believe that the Courts should have the authority for Judicial Review. It is important because powerless Court means powerless law. In this way, the power can be balanced. Number of terms for any Governmental position should be fixed. For instance, if a person is appointed (not elected) six times by six people as a Prime Minister for Nepal, young and potential leaders will not get a chance to evolve. Successors follow the precedent and in case of Nepal, precedent set by the evil civil war is on the way to lead to an ethnical war. It should be noted, political wars may end, but an ethnical war is unavoidable and it will affect everyone tremendously. Eight party alliances have set monopoly to rule Nepal. Clearly, getting appointed for unlimited terms and evolution of no new leaders is the result of monopoly. Government created by unconstitutional way, is itself unconstitutional. Noticeably, Nepal has not been able to hold elections for more than eight years; is the government elected body who can decide about the people’s choice including the issue of monarchy? Maoist chairman has attracted United States and United Nations with pack of lies. Without having evidences, alleging anyone with a national threat, is certainly not authorized by the exercise of free speech. Is the international world still relying on his words? The biggest question today is “Are we ready to witness another unending ethnical war?”

Most importantly, I am surprised, why the big nations, are watching this drama. They are capable to end this drama and provide peace to this nation of 26 million populations who will thank them forever.

has nepal failed or is it failing? Or is there still hope? Or has Nepal passed through the darkest times and now it's time for light? Or is there worse to come?
So many questions and not even one answer.

Shame on people... it is 21st century... it is obvious... it is open and clear....

First of all country never ever failed. People who are citizen of that country must be responsible and accountable for fail government, politics and social systems.

Bahun and Chettris failed Nepali democracy, Peace, Human Rights, Government, Politics and Law/Order.

In Nepal,

Corrupted 7 Nepali political parties run by Bahun and Chettris.

Slavery, Cast, Social hate systems implements and practices by Bahun and Chettris.

Hindu religion forcefully implements and named Nepal Hindu country by Bahun and Chettris.

More than 96% Bahun and Chettris work in government offices where they do openly and heavily national crimes and corruption. Like sell authentic Nepal citizenship and passport to Indian people and foreigners.

Bahun and chettris 95% discriminately work in development projects and they do heavy crimes and corruptions which lead development project never ever execute and failed. Like ARUN HYDRO PROJECT, DRINKING WATER MELAMCHI PROJECTS etc.

Bahun and Chettris are the root problems of all problem of Nepal and future of true patriotic Nepalese.

If we have to SAVE Nepal, we have to take care these corrupted and criminal Bahun and Chettris. It is sound funny….. We agree or disagree, but it is true and bottom-line solution.

Above article is just want to make scapegoat to Chettris and Bahuns by talking cleverly and sweetly.

I don't think Nepal has failed. Wrong Analysis but well argued.

Nepal is coming out of long history of oppression, outdated political systems and ongoing problems of non feasible resources for use. If it did not happen now it was coming near future. Nepal needs to go through this phase to participate in the growing global economy with open policies and contemporary political management theory.

Democracy is the only way out , if prachanda does not understand this and becomes ambitious he will have the same fate as Gyanendra.

Although i am optimistic in the medium term . short term might be very chaotic.

Go Nepalese - I honour the people and politicians who are fighting - at least as to what they believe in.

One needs to try and not fart in the chair ! Atleas they are tryiing.

N.B - Most people in this blog including me are the status quo and may have difficulty to understand the other side of the story. It is failure for the status quo but a victory to poor and opressed.

Word from the mouth of the king is no more a law. It is a big achievement and did take lives and struggles from generations to get there.

Keep up the Struggle

Peace !

Nepal, a failed state?? hmmm... Not yet but getting there. Once elections come about, Maoists are gonna win (like Saddam always did by tyranny and fear during his dictatorship) and surely we're all doomed. How hard is it for the Maoists to steal ballots? After all they have the entire countryside on hold, their own army ready for combat, the average Nepali cops' pants are soggy with fear with only the bare mention of their name and as per someone's article above, they have big brother India on their side. Now tell me what the other parties have besides the local dadas?...There's your answer!

Hold onto your horses Sujata as you're one of the few who knows where this election's headed.

nice discussion. i afraid if gyane will again come in power. it would rather be otlerable the maoists government for nepalese people. but the "ruler by birth" should be ended.
this is the first step for nepal to get out of the problem. if we curse maoists we are not right all in all. constituent assembly- this was their least demand to end up the war and come to the peace process during the first peace talk. which political party was ready to listen this reasonable demand. now all nepalese people want republic nepal but see the so called leaders ......the most guilty person is girija. but he still is in favour of ceremonial king. please stop talking about nepal. is there any one who did not kill innocent people while was in power? nepalese people can not go against so called political leaders thinking that that might cause gyane again to rise up. see, yesterday in basantaput people showed what is the popularity of congress. ycl saved him from the public attac. do you think these political parties want to have the election of constituent assembly? they don't want for the following reason:
congress does not want: because congress has been divided already and is loosing popularity so has less chances to win. so they are waiting to weaken uml and maoist.
uml : they do not want because they afraid with maoist obviously they do not want to compete with maoist.
maoist: they always play in bad situation. so nothing can be better than the current situation.

I think there is too much of defeatist and apocalyptic thinking on Sajha when it comes to the Maoists. For god's sake, they are not invincible and the best - in fact the only practical way - to beat them is at the polls.

I dont have a crystal ball to make predictions but I certainly think the political trend line at this moment does not point to a victory for the Maoists at the polls. That said, things change in politics pretty fast and the NC and UML should not take anything for granted.

They can be beaten and I personally think they will be.

Billions of Bilious Blue Blistering Barnacles! Haddock, you say that the Maoists could be beat at the polls? Maybe in Ktm, but what about the countryside? Speaking from witnessing gau-ghar ko elections and having a cousin who undertook contracts to steal ballots back in the days, it's might and gundagardi that counts. Do you think the other parties compare with the Maosits in this arena? Hey, don't get me wrong, I'd love to see them beaten but lets be a lil practical. But in Nepal, fair polls is as dead as a dodo.

Hey there Samsara -

I think there is a very slim chance for the Maoists to come to power if the NC and UML play their cards well. I am generally hesitant to get into political punditry, but since you asked and you seem like an open minded person, I thought I'd oblige :) I think the NC has a good chance of regaining power (either by itself or in a post election coalition with some of the other parties). The UML's chances are somewhat less favorable because the lefitst vote which added upto about 40% combined in previous elections is will be split between the UML and CPN-M unless if they move to the center and compete with the NC.

Maoists arms, what remains of them, are still an issue but the NC and UML have been gearing up organizational muscle power as well over the last few months. If you look at the Terai and eastern hills, I personally believe, the two parties have the organizational muscle to - at a minimum - bring their voters to the polls inspite of the Maoist presence. Going by past experience, the Army will be deployed around election time, which may have a countervailing influence in the major towns of the terai and eastern hills. If the NC can sweep the eastern region and central and western terai, they have a very good shot at power. Same for the UML if they can do it.

The story in the western hills is different. The Maoists can expect to pick up seats there. And that is a loss for the NC because that's where they drew some of their support from in the past. That's why they may not end up with an outright majority and may need to coalesce with either the UML or Maoists after the elections to form a government.

The situation in the Terai, contrary to conventional wisdom, favors the Congress in my opinion. The Madesi vote is likley to be split between Yadavs and what are called OBCs in India and the upper castes Madesis. The Pahade vote between Congress, UML and to a lesser extent Maoists. The NC is best suited to pick enough votes from each vote bank and come up with the highest count - though perhaps not a majority - in many places. The UML too is not too far behind on that account.

Again, I hate doing crystall balling, and my purpose here is not so much to predict what will happen as much as it is to show that political calculations and trends at this time do not indicate a complete victory for the Maoists and they can still be beaten.

Also while at it, my support of SPA is issue based for the most part. In politics there are no permanent friends an enemies and I do not love anyone - no, I dont love that parties and neither do I hate anyone - I don't hate the King or Maoists for example even though I dont agree with them all the time. As a patriotic Nepali, I want to see my countrymen live a live of dignity and prosperity and I think at this time their best shot at doing that is through the pluralistic political system that every one in the country - even Maoist and moderate Monarchists - wants.

The election polls will take place whether we here at Sajha like it or not and I hope you're correct in your analysis Haddock. However, once again, you are assuming fair polls which I believe will be very unlikely...All we here abroad can do is hope and pray that the mostly uneducated, landless and poor voting public choose wisely.

"Fair" under the circumstances ...not discounting muscle and money power used by all sides. That is a sad but inevitable reality in Nepal.

" pray that the mostly uneducated, landless and poor voting public choose wisely. "

Yes, and I have much more faith in them than many of us abroad or Kathmandu's elites. Nepal's masses have made some very wise choices in the past and I can only hope they will do so again. They may be uneducated but they have proved time and again to be capable of pretty sound judgment.

Again, I'd caution focusing on the punditry -which was only done to prove a point- the thrust of my argument is that the Maoists are not invincible and we should not give up the electoral fight before it has even begun.

Have a good one.

It is the most important to know....

"What is the root causes the Nepali Politics, Democracy, Government, Law/Order and Justice systems failed in Nepal?"

If you dig for the clues, and do not find any that means it could be one of your cause or you must be stupid "cool dude".

If you dig for the clues, and you have hard time to sleep and it disturbs your feeling and mind. You are the Good citizen of Nepal and you must be a patriotic Nepali who love so much and care about mother land Nepal.
