What is the main demanad of people? Loktantra or Ganatantra ? If loktantra then king will still have access to the absolute power at anytime.

The slogans on the street are becoming more republican by the day. Till a few days ago it would have been fairly safe to say the movement would fizzle down if the King handed power back to the parties but it now appears a republic is becoming reality with each passing day. I am not a politician, scholar or expert, but based on what I can tell, the republican train has left the station. If we don't see a republic in the immediate aftermath of this movement, we are bound to see one in the not too distant future because there odds are stacked up pretty steeply against the King and the monarchy. From the brutal handling of protest to the less than sparkling reputation of his son it is becoming hard to envision the Monarchy regaining the prestige and legitimacy it once enjoyed. I get the sense the parties prefer a severly weakened ceremonial Monarchy to a republic but things can go either way at this time. The big thing to watch out for is the speech the King is supposed to give on Friday, if he does give it at all. Whether he opts for reconciliation and bends to the people and the parties or choses to clamp down further will, in my opinion, determine whether this movement will produce a loktantra or ganatantra.

Loktantra, Rajtantra, constitutional monarchy, etc. is no longer enough. Ganatantra (Republic) is what we need now! If you have doubts, ask those three dead and hundreds injured yesterday.

If Nepal becomes republic, the national anthem will change. The Flag should be changed as well. The two triangle represent the flags of Shree 5 and Shree 3 during the latter days of Jung's rule. Nepal's flag was only one triangel with the sun before that. But, my thoughts are always for a Kingdom of Nepal. If the King abdicate, then Nepal shoudl put Hridayendra on the throne and the Royal council run as a regent (since Prince Paras will fled as well). nepal shoudl remain a constitutional monarchy or ceremonial monarchy like the Great Britain and/or Norway, Sweden etc...

And you think our dear friend Paras will let go of the throne ???? I am not against the ceremonial monarchy but the fear that someday paras will become the King is what sounds dangerous even to think of.

.SPA are joining hands with Maoists. I recall, the parliament made up of these 7 parties, tried to vote to declare them terrorist. it was only because of King Birendra, that did not go through, yet the Indians and the US declared them terrorists. Nepal still only calls them rebels. Now, the SPA has some beautiful alliance with the Maoists to overthrow the King. i think even the Maoists should be wary of this SPA (i bet Prachanda already knows that), who would eventually declare them terrorists thus annhilating them. The SPA that many support are just some opportunists, who would do anything to give them power and positions and make the most. people, just think of this, before you make a choice. Nepal was far too peaceful during the Panchayat era of 30 years, than the first 10 years of democratic era. Too many ideologies clashing in a small dom is dangerous. There are over 200 ethnic groups. There are seven parties in an alliance with 5 lefts and 2 rights. There are two NC (fight amonth NC), uncountable Communist Parties (Communist Parties, according to their own ideology cannot participate in a democratic system, with an eception to Nepal????? - only the maoists are true communist in nepal) Huda huda, even RPP are 4 factions. Where are we heading with a republic notion. The parliament will never have a majority to get a consistent government. Everyone wants to become primeminister. Think of the chaos that is to come than what we already have.

.now there is a tendency to look at the benefit of 30 years of panchayat. can we forget about the cost. more importantly, who enjoyed the cost and who enjoyed the benefit? those are the important questions to ask.

.same question to you. who benefitted the most with the first 10 years of democracy and at what cost. the dollar rocketted from Rs. 21 to Rs. 75, in 10 years as oppose to Rs 7 to Rs 15 in the 30 years.

Raj Khalak ko jyan marera monarchy maridaina. Sambidhan le marnu parcha. Jab samma sambidhan ma monarchy mathi nai rahancha, no matter how many gyane or paras u kill, there will be another one poped up as a new king. So think for Loktantra. think for sambidhan sabhako chunab think for ganatantra where people can keep the king aside if they want to or they will let them to exile. Since there is no penalty of death entence, he might be kept in jail for the life.
