Who we are We are a group of fun-loving people interested in having unbridled fun and talking about the lighter side of life on Sajha.
We are unapologetic about what we say because we don't put too much thought into our words. We have come to learn after all these episodes that when your goal is unrestrained and harmless fun, you can only be so careful or thoughtful about what you say. We mean no harm towards anyone and welcome everyone to join the fun.
The Cafe series, as it has evolved over the weeks and months, is an effort to create a community of like minded people who want to have fun - or as SNDY likes to says - "be good and have fun". That is the only clause in our one-line constitution.
What do we do in the Cafe? Meeting, greeting and sharing is what we do a lot of. As well as singing, dancing, needling (one another of course), opining, joking and anything else to kill time. Not to forget serving and partaking virtual lattes, biscottis, tea, coffee, samosas, jalebis and other tasty baked goods that we take out of the Google Images oven. We've also posted videos, dedicated songs, confessed our crushes, talked about weather, food, work, sports - anything that is fun.
History History is never uncontroversial and ours too might not be free from it.This is version is subject to revision as members deem fit.
This whole thing was started by Hi Nanu and instigated by SNDY. Back in those days, SNDY had so many people to say hi to that she would go on each thread where her friends had posted, and say hi, regardless of what the topic was. It had a positive impact on the site, IMO, because it made conversations lighter and soon others started following that trend and we had several threads where the topic might have been something like the "Collapse of the European Monetary Union" but other than the first few posts, the conversation turned out to be about anything but that.
So one day Hi Dai opened a thread called "Thread for greeting each other". Little did he realize what he had created. That thread filled a vacuum in Sajha, as we saw it, for friendly conversation between people that was free of name calling, personal attacks and caste/creed/school/language prejudices. This was back in the dark days of the caste wars and turf struggles. That thread quickly filled up and reach it's maximum posts in a matter of days and another one was started. And then another and another ...
At that time someone jokingly (perhaps contemptuously) referred to us as the "Nautanki" group. We took on that joke and called our self the Nuatanki Briagade and fulfilled SNDY's long running desire to become a Brigadier. So there were several threads (or episodes as we called them) under the Nautanki banner. We got to a point where we ran the joke to the ground and thought it might be time for a name change. We figured a word like Nautanki can wear out after a while and we suspect it might have deterred some people, who would otherwise have posted, from posting on the thread .
We held a poll on whether or not we should change our name. We decided, by an overwhelming majority, to change the name. It was Juggy who came up with the name "Cafe N". The rest, as they say, is history.
Geography As of last count, in alphabetical order of countries and US states: Alabama, Australia, Belgium, California, Canada, Connecticut, Denmark, Florida, Illinois, India, Iraq, Italy, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nepal, Netherlands, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, New Zealand, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, UK, Washington,Washington DC. Some of us haven't disclosed our locations and I might have missed some so the list is probably longer.
Languages Languages heard in the Cafe: English, Nepali, Punjabi, Hindi, Newari, Sanskrit, French, German, Gujrati, Spanish, Esperanto and mixtures and derivatives thereof. The list is bound to grow as we plan to expand to all the corners of the world - although we haven't quite figured how. Politics Constitutional Assembly elections are slated for a some time the future, around NPL2US's recently announced wedding date. The Fun party and the Sun party are running neck to neck so we've figured we are in for some fun and sun regardless of the outcome.
But seriously we tend to leave our politics, class, caste, creed, schooling, religion, Indian idol preferences and anything that could affect the fun on the other side of our keyboards or for other threads. Thapap and Loote may battle it out like there is no tomorrow on other threads, but they've been good buddies here. How do I join ? Post something, anything, in the "be good and have fun" spirit and you are guaranteed to receive a warm welcome
TL confesses to her love of lipstick. Air Sajha plane with the entire Nautanki brigade on-board experiences a near crash resulting in several more confessions from others.
Cleo and Loote's virtual marriage, television shows and favorites foods like lakhamari, sekuwa, momo, Juggy's reports, amongst other things, are the topics of conversation.
(Folks, the above is just my interpretation of things done in the spirit of the Cafe and purely for fun. If there is anything you want changed, added or removed, please let me know)

Hey Nepte, btw, I emailed what you wrote to S. Baba ..and do u know what he said? "R u sure he's not one of your cousins re" He he..Do you realize that you hit right on the spot !! great job again !!
" .LOL @ Captain! ha ha ha! If we ask npl2us bro to open Cafe N version 18, he will be posting his heart out in here. I know he will also be "worried" about people not posting in the cafe he has started. LOL..."
He he ... you hit the nail on the head! (Puts on his wannabe-Admiral hat) We need to instill a sense of responsibility in the younger generation. Otherwise this thread will go down in the dumps and langiush in the dustbins of Sajha history - what says's you Camo bhaijan?
"Captain, Does that mean, there's a reason behind why we see your posts pretty frequently today? ;-) "
(takes off the hat) Yeah, the pains and pressures of responsibility ...LOL!!!
Loote said:
"i think that's a good proposal. need to get people in here. i know they just love sneak peeking in from behind the curtain. need to bring them here in the stage more often."
So that's one more in favor. All those in favor please say "Aye" ... ha ha ha
SNDY Ma'am -
You and me should get into a business. We'll make great business partners I think...ha ha ha
And please dont let being busy stop you from having fun here ... this place will wilt and wither without you around :)
Lutii -
Hey, I had't heard that number in ages. Loved it. But you said "TM, i hope ppl from cafe won't kick us out for posting the songs:P"
Oh, come on! Why would anyone do such a thing? he he
Kishnakale -
Welcome!! Thanks for sharing so much about you ... man, you exemplify what sharing is - you did it better than any one of us ... he he.
Cerine - Hi!
Jack - Happy Friday
Maverick - Good afternoon.
Hi to the rest.
Rythm -
As for vanity, I guess mine, but I really added it because it went well with the other elements - in truth, there wasn't much of it.
BTW, the song you posted reminded me of this parody:
Hey there, Khalilah, what's it like in Baghdad City? I'm 3,000 miles away but girl tonight you're looking pretty Can't you see? You're looking really hot, baby. Literally.
Hey there, Khalilah, I am at my latest booking But I'm writing you tonight to say how much I miss your cooking So I sob. Wipe all my tears up with a mop. There's no kabob.
Oh, it's how you cook the meat. How you cook the meat.
Hey there Khalilah, you stay good and cook some coosa Til I'm back there making money at the Improv in Falluja Give it time. I'm bombing really bad this time. No, not that kind.
Hey there, Khalilah, if I must eat one more Twinkie Well I might just have to lick my arm and then bite off my pinky What a scene. The only Arab food I see's Attached to me
Oh, it's how you cook the meat. How you cook the meat.
3,000 miles is far away, but I just want kabob today I'd eat it all up with a knife and fork. Why am I so far from you? All they have here is bar-b-que Which would be good except I don't eat pork. The ketchup here is really bad, the mustard's not a deadly gas This pizza box tastes better, that's for sure And it's cardboard
Hey there, Khalilah, you're tahini on falafal No, you're not sesame paste but girl I just can't eat without you So you know. I'll have kabob when I get home. And chug rose water like a pro Cuz I do not like Domino's
Capt. saab, u're just being nice..business partners is a good idea..I talk, you work policy would work just fine with me..he he..I doing all the talking bit..:)
