Bidhan40, Finally somebody stepped forward to speak the reality hoina ta? I luv this comparison stuff and feel even better when Lara edges out Tendulkar. Tendulkar may have been a run machine but not a real match winner. How many times has he thrown his wicket at the key moment and how many times has he won match by himself for his team, can u count?

The question of if Sachin Tendulkar should retire or not is totally Sachin’s own decision. It is none of Ian Chappel’s or any others business. If Sachin thinks he had played enough crickets and its time to retire than that’s fine, if he thinks he can still play and help Indian team it will be good too. Sachin along with Lara are the greatest batsmen of out time. Who is the best between them depend on who you ask the questions. Sir Don Bradman the greatest cricketer ever to play the game once said that Sachin reminds of himself when he was young. So does that means Ian Chappel is disagreeing with his own mentor Sir Bradman about the batsmen today? Whenever a bowler takes Sacnin’s wicket he will have a joy like it’s a greatest time of his life. You don’t find that joy when bowlers take wicket of any other batsmen. To call Sachin a selfish player or run machine not mach winner is just a joke. I think it is sad that when ever Indian tema fails every body start blaming Sachin like he is the only player on the team. He is not ever a captain. He was once a captain of Indian team and he gave up that coz he was not having success as captain. How many players do that, yet people call him selfish and all the craps. It has been a while I’ve not watched cricket but I have a great respect for Sachin. In my book he is the best. Gifted players like him are born only once in a while.

I can't understand why people are giving so much thought about the opinion of a person who is using the anti-Indian cricketers sentiment for his personal favour. First of all, Mr. Ian Chappel has compared Test Cricketer Sachin with Test Cricketer Lara. His logic is completely false because he wants Sachin to retire from one-day cricket based on his test performance. And, test player Lara or test player Dravid was test player Kallis was always better than test player Sachin because Sachin was never a kind of player who would play 35 balls to open his inning. And the example, Ian highlited in his article from 2004 inning was an example of Sachin's determination as he was coming back to form after a string of innings of 8,7,55,1,0,DNB,1,37,0,44. He was struggling for runs and he came back determined with 241 N.O against Australia and in Australia. The inning was followed by 60 N.O and 194 N.O. And regarding Sachin as a One-day player; in last 25 inning Sachin averages 41.90 , with 2 centuries and 6 fifties, Where as The Great Lara has an average of 37.22 with no centuries and 4 fifties. YOU CAN'T BLAME AN INDIVIDUAL FOR THE TEAMS FAILURE. SACHIN WAS GREAT AND IS GREAT CRICKETER. IT IS JUST THAT OUR EXPECTATION HAS INCREASED AND THE TEAM HAS NOT BEEN GOOD ENOUGH. AN INDIVIDUAL CAN'T CARRY THE BURDEN OF 1O OTHER FAILURES. Thanks.

There's no denying that Sachin is the greatest batsman of the modern era!! Ian Chappel is an idiot who thinks that Lara has been better than Tendulkar and that's the reason why he should retire because in doing so, he's being a douchebag and forgetting Ponting who's been the World's greatest batsman since WC '03. Here's the deal about Sachin, if you've been a loyal fan then you've seen batsmen outscoring him on certain time periods, Jayasurya, Mark Waugh, De Silva, Andy Flower, Hayden, Ponting, Ganguly, Dravid, Lara and co!!! Tara pani, Kati aye, Kati gaye, Tendulkar jasta chahin kaile ni ayenan. Lets not allow us to fall under some senseless illusions by agreeing on what Ian Chappel had to say because he's clearly ignoring the fact that Sachin has missed out on playing fluent cricket due to the nagging injuries that kept him away from the game for quite a bit. His records, statistics and MOST importantly, his consistency can never be bettered!!! I hate it when people give me a crap about certain players playing better under pressure and so on!!! Sachin always scores, is it his fault that his fellow teammates don't score as often as he does? Isn't that the case with the whole australian team? Ponting scores a hundred, then Hayden scores on the next one, Symonds, Langer, Gilchrist do the same!!! The bottom line is, Sachin still has a lot to offer, he's shown his fluency after recovering back from his injuries over the past 7-8 months and he's set to display his array of shots and skills and dominate the cricketing world! I wish that the wankers ( Ian chappel and other douchebags ) got off his back and left him again and let the master do some talking by scoring some hundreds!

why do aussie have to poke their nose in everyone else's business. Who the hell does he think he is? Ok, even if Lara is better than Sachin then why should he quit. Haden is not as good as Lara, so Haden should quit. Ponting is not as good as Lara, so Ponting should quit. . . . . if everyone is compared to lara, they should Quit. THE ONE WHO SHOULD QUIT IS, IAN CHAPPEL KO BROTHER GREG CHAPPEL

Balbhadra . Will you shut up. Why do you have to bring my issue here. And stop saying his consitency. That is thing of the past. And haha true he will score hundreds . Tour of bangladesh is starting in one and half months. Everybody scores runs but it is the way people scores runs differentiate between good and great player. Sachin has lost his touch about 5 years now. He is in true sense a minnow basher.

These individuals speaks what public wants to hear and are paid for speaking the same. They will say Sachin is the greatest one day and declare him pathetic the next. I still believe just to carry the burden of 1 Billion people's expectation and perform at this level and in this capacity is phenomenal. He is Great and will remain Great. It doesn't matter if some losers says anything about his ability. Regarding his retirement...he is the only one whois to decide WHEN?? and i can't imagine Indian cricket team without Sachin in the near future.

BRIAN LARA HAS BEEN IN A LOSING SIDE OF A TEST MATCH MORE THAN ANY OTHER TEST CRICKETER. Does that mean he is not a great player. There are 11 players in a team. 4-5 bowlers & 6-7 batsmen. If Tendulkar scores a century and the bowlers bowl like sh*t ( happened many times in the nineties), what the hell can he do. same thing has happend to Lara in the past decade. Go ahead and check the records---how many tests have WI won in the past decade. In my opinion, Tendulkar and Lara, along with Ponting are the best cricketers of this era and Ian Chappel is talking sh*t.

Brian Lara : Played 131 tests Lost 62 But he is still one of the best players around... So what about his records???? Is he not playing for his own records then if WI is not winning despite Lara's records. I understand if you like Lara better than Sachin but calling him a bad player is just crap

Ian Chappel knows very well that his dear brother's job as a coach of India is in grave danger. He is just trying to divert the attention from his brother, and find blames on players. Yes, Brian Lara is one of the best batsmen, but I don't think there is any cricket player who is under as much pressue as Tendulkar is when playing the game. Many times he was the backbone of the Indian team, and he had the expectations of billions of people who if were unhappy with hisr perfmorance were ready to jump at him right away. Now you imagine playing your every game with such mindset, and to still come as good is something Brian Lara never had to do. So for me Tendulkar is better than Lara. Besides with such performance and reputation, he is still one of the most humble guys in the field. Like they say, good cricketers lose form but not class, and that is exactly what is happening with Tendulkar right now. Give him some time to get back. As for right now, Ponting and Matthew Hayden are one of the best out there.

Balbhadra what do you mean by GO AND SUPPORT THOSE DARIWAL MUSALMAN ATANKABADIS. Stop being racist and call muslims as a terrorist. and just watch the match from a neutral prospective. Seems like sachin supporters are greatly hurt. But fact is fact. And what can lara alone do. Do you know in one test in srilank lara scroed over 450 runs and still was on losing side. That is second highest total in one test match by individual batsman ever. Tell me how many times has sachin scored over 450 runs in one whole series. Compare lara's 34 century with sachins 35 and the difference will be clearly visible. Sachin has never played an innings like 153* in bridgetown or 213 in jamaica to win matches. And you know what sachin has failed to dominate consistently for last half a decade and it is the fact. Go and check the rankings sachin is not even in top 20 players in the world. Give me a break. He has been most of the time out of top 10 for last four five years. Lara has always been in top 10 and more regularly in number 1, 2, 3. Remember a test where rahul dravid was forced to declare the innings when sachin was on 194* where sachin was batting at a snails pace to reach 200. Compare that to lara who equaled the world record of hayden with a six. Difference is clearly visible. Even Kallis a Dravid scores like sachin. What makes ponting and lara among others for last few years is the ability to dicatate the proceeding of the test match and dominate the bowlers. Lara has scored world record 28 runs and 26 runs in an over. Yeah true , sachin probably plays better against bangladesh and zimbabwe and scores not out innings like 248* and 201* to bloat his average. Compare that to lara's 9 double hundred all have come against stronger opposition.
