This is a brief teaser for my upcoming story : "Nepali Cyberpunk Manifesto" loosely based on the lives of a few young teenage Nepali geeks in their teenage years obsessed with the machine that we love or hate and know as the computer.
[Prelude]
The year must have been 2000 and I was yet another face in one of the big private boarding schools in Kathmandu . I had just finished writing an interesting Qbasic program in the computer lab of my school. After the familiar school bell started ringing in its usual monotone, I quickly made my way out of the lab along with the 40 or so students in the class. Before leaving I did not forget to "run" the Qbasic program I had spent coding after easily finishing the assigned classwork in the first few minutes of the class. When I reflect on my coding skills and overall knowledge of operating systems it was nothing short of being totally lame. But as a starry eyed eighth grader I was excited to wreak havoc with my program which was meant to be a rudimentary virus that executed a "deltree" command in MS-DOS which would wipe out of the content of the hard drive where my program resided. For dramatic effects a count down timer was included down from 10..9......1 This was the less than perfect birth of a cyber punk in the interwebs of Kathmandu.
