Today is Buddha Jayanti. Buddha's teachings are so important in today's world. He particularly pointed out the reason why human beings are in misery - to have more and more. But who listens? To me, all the Buddists are hypocritic. They eat a lot of meat and talk about Karuna. They pride themselves, saying I'm a Buddhist. They are so full of ego and they get angry when I say they are Nakkali Buddhist. These nakkali Buddhist have made Buddha a Buddu.

What's the point of celebrating Buddha Jayanti - may be to say to him, you are a Buddu, I hate to say.

Paagal

Your name describes you so no wonder nobody has replied yet. Let me tell ya sth biatch. You don't have to eat meat or eat grass in order to follow religion. You just follow the good principles and discard the ones that is not necessary. Saying Buddhists a hypocritic is saying yo's uncle son of biatch. What's  up with you? If you follow Hindu, that's fine but you don't have to call other religion hypocritic, m&&therf&&ker. As a matter of fact, I am not a religious person nor a buddhist but I follow both of 'em because I follow good principles from both religion and discard the ones that are not needed. So, Go get a job and get a life. If not, attempt suicide, you ain't worth a penny to this world.

 YOU GOT THAT.

Paagal , I'm Buddhist and I'm not offended by single words that you expressed

Everyone has rights to say anything..

If you feel that way and wants to let know everyone about it.. express your more of your feeling ..... ...
Write more bad about it... if it makes you feel good........

I've nothing to say bad about you or any religion...

"BUT I BEG YOU TO WRITE MORE HETRATE IF ITS MAKING YOU FEEL GOOD"

These are some quotes for you...

One of his students asked Buddha, "Are you the messiah?"
"No", answered Buddha.
"Then are you a healer?"
"No", Buddha replied.
"Then are you a teacher?" the student persisted.
"No, I am not a teacher."
"Then what are you?" asked the student, exasperated.
"I am awake", Buddha replied.

-Buddha

All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become.

sirus_me this one for you

Paagal, you mothafugcking bigot!  Tolerance for others' religious sentiments is a necessity for all "normal" humans, ya lil gnome-faced she-male!!  Go fornicate with your mom instead of coming in here and proving yourself a sublime ignoramus!!

Ethocentrism is fine until you end up stabbing someone else's sentiments.  Then all hell will break loose.  Why don't mothafugkas like you come forth and voice your opinions in the face of a Buddhist rather than hide behind a viel and scream such lunacy?  What a fugcking psycho!!

I respect Gautam Buddha as a person who revived the need for meditation and building compassion for all forms of lives in this world. I have no doubt that he was an enlightened soul who was also capable of uplifting the spirits of others around him as well.

But I have wondered since long time back that why he never advocated vegeterianism as a way of life. I don't understand how we can be compassionate when we don't understand (or pretend to not understand) how the animals feel while  going under the blade just for the sake of our tongues. If we just ignore this topic while we are at the dining table next time, how can we become compassionate to other lives?

This is just my thought, just came out spontaneously when I saw this thread.

Sorry if I've offended anyone.

Not just animals but plants have life too. So if you think you are doing a great justice to non-violence by being vegetarian then you are dead wrong. There is a concept of something called food-chain that has kept the circle of life going since the Paleozoic Era. In the current era, plants and animals (including human beings) have to depend upon one another for food. That's how the check and balance for sustainability of any form of life is maintained.

Whether vegetarian or non-vegetarian, we are destroying the life of a plant or animal unless we start feeding upon lifeless mud or stones!

One can still be kind or responsible to both sources of food by minimizing the plight of both animals and plants. For instance, as a human being one can refrain from taking away the life of a plant or animal if he/she never had an intention of turning into some form of food or utility in the first place.

Let's leave religion aside.
Ask anybody in any part of the world beside Nepal, India
Do you prefer to eat cow or drink their pee?
You'll get the answer. At least we do not drink their pee nor pray to a statue of human genital(shiva linga). Want me to pour more "jaal" on the flaws of Hinduism? Nobody is perfect. Get over it.
and I'm sorry to if I offended anybody.

All I have to say is:

        Self-Examination

Not others’ opposition
Nor what they did or failed to do,
But in oneself should be sought
Things done, things left undone.

I don't understand why meat eaters always defend themselves by saying that plants also have life and blah blah when in their heart they know that they are doing something wrong. At least I'm proud that I don't want to be a hypocrite and its my gut feeling that eating meat is wrong. At least plants don't cry, look horrified and shocked unlike animals getting killed. You'll know what I'm saying if you visit a slaughterhouse some day and then feel the pain vibrating inside you. Even after that if it doesn't effect us then theres definately something wrong with us.

RELIGION IS BIGGEST BULL_SH*T.....

When it comes to bullshit, big-time, major league bullshit, you have to stand in awe of the all-time champion of false promises and exaggerated claims, religion. No contest. No contest. Religion. Religion easily has the greatest bullshit story ever told. Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time!
But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He's all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can't handle money! Religion takes in billions, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bullshit story. Holy Shit!
But I want you to know something, this is sincere, I want you to know, when it comes to believing in God, I really tried. I really, really tried. I tried to believe that there is a God, who created each of us in His own image and likeness, loves us very much, and keeps a close eye on things. I really tried to believe that, but I gotta tell you, the longer you live, the more you look around, the more you realize, something is fu**ed up.
Something is wrong here. War, disease, death, destruction, hunger, filth, poverty, torture, crime, corruption, and the Ice Capades. Something is definitely wrong. This is not good work. If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed. Results like these do not belong on the résumé of a Supreme Being. This is the kind of shit you'd expect from an office temp with a bad attitude. And just between you and me, in any decently-run universe, this guy would've been out on his all-powerful ass a long time ago. And by the way, I say "this guy", because I firmly believe, looking at these results, that if there is a God, it has to be a man.
No woman could or would ever fu*k things up like this. So, if there is a God, I think most reasonable people might agree that he's at least incompetent, and maybe, just maybe, doesn't give a shit. Doesn't give a shit, which I admire in a person, and which would explain a lot of these bad results.

I think Buddhism is more of a philosophy or 'way of life'.

"Four Noble Truths," which are the foundation of all Buddhist belief:

1.) All human life is suffering (dhukka ).
2.) All suffering is caused by human desire, particularly the desire that impermanent things be permanent.
3.) Human suffering can be ended by ending human desire.

4.) Desire can be ended by following the "Eightfold Noble Path": right understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration.

*******************************************************************************************************************

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.
But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is
conducive to the good and benefit of one and  all, then accept it and live up to it."

mohanB,

Food is one of the basic rights to survival, which is an essence to life. If you celebrate life, you celebrate food in whatever form or matter. You bring out slaughterhouses, thats a different business. I dont encourage cruelty, but at the same time I do not condone eating flesh.
If you are going to justify killing of plants for the lack of the screams and cries that animals often display, will it be alright, by your standards, to butcher animals when are sleep such that they do not "feel" any pain or will not have any time to react.

bored,

The entirety of your post does not prove to me the non-existence of God. May be we need to separate God from religion. May be we need to ask ourselves where we stand in this triangle of God, religion and our own identity. My bet is that further we stand from religion and closer we stand to God, better we will appreciate the relationship between the God and ourselves. That relationship, my friend, is the religion we need ...a customized one.

Due to these type of things (see below news from kantipuronline) I'm sometimes even ashamed of my culture and being a Nepali. Giving Bali on Buddha Jayanti ?? what the heck??? shame on us.

Osho Rajneesh once said that Nepal is poor because we couldn't understand Gautam Buddha, sounds very true to me.

BTW, thanks rameshdai for posting that video.

offended no man...laugh yes!!

a Cup of Tea

Nan-in, a Japanese master during the Meiji era (1868-1912), received a university professor who came to inquire about Zen.

Nan-in served tea. He poured his visitor's cup full, and then kept on pouring.

The professor watched the overflow until he no longer could restrain himself. "It is overfull. No more will go in!"

"Like this cup," Nan-in said, "you are full of your own opinions and speculations. How can I show you Zen unless you first empty your cup?"
