Calling Testers, Programmers or DBAs ‘Engineers’ is just like saying Garbageman are “Sanitation Engineers”.

Software engineering generally requires Bachelors in Software/Computer Engineering. Engineering by itself is an industry that is regulated. You hear about all the data breaches and clumsy software often? It’s because the regulation in this industry is long overdue.

Coming to your question — don’t think too much and join any consultancy. The bottom line is — Fake it till you make it. But don’t join if you feel like everyone else is doing it. It’s a tedious job and you will feel burnt out soon. I mean get into it if you’re REALLY interested. You don’t need a Masters degree to work as developer, admins or analyst. I’ve seen people who claimed they studied engineering in college typing on a keyboard like a rooster picking grains. 😂

Good luck!!

It's like CNA are helping doctors and nurses in medical fields, they may tell you that their working area is nursing which is a true statement but they are not nurse.

IT jobs include computer programming, network administration, computer engineering, Web development, technical support, and many other related occupations. Since we live in the "information age," information technology has
become a part of our everyday lives. Now they are IT guys and gals.

When I was young my brothers had an essay " Survival is the Fittest" Now I understand the message.

Since you do not have any technical background, I believe Business Analyst, Tester, DevOps, developer is the right order to go for, where Business Analyst being the field where you need minimal IT background. You won't get away without learning regardless, but the effort you put on increases from left to right. My suggestion would be to go for business analyst.
